Introducing the Aleo Roadmap

The Aleo Network Foundation was created to nurture a new generation of developers building the privacy apps of the future, through community-led governance, education and the tools needed to get the job done.

Today, we continue this commitment by unveiling the technical roadmap that will guide us through the rest of 2025 and into the future. Together with Provable, we’re committed to giving our developer community a greater understanding of our priorities to better build the privacy-first apps the world needs. This is part of a wider effort to strengthen the Aleo Network as a whole, making it a better place for developers to build and users to secure their most private information, with more announcements to come in the next few weeks.

“Aleo was designed to bring a revolutionary level of privacy to the internet, much like how HTTPS revolutionized online commerce,” said Howard Wu, CEO at Provable and Aleo co-founder. “Our technical roadmap shows our continued commitment to the security, developer experience, and scalability of the network, creating a flywheel for future growth opportunities.”

Explore the roadmap on your own, or read on for an overview of what we plan to deliver this year.

Engineering mathematical certainty at scale

AleoBFT is Aleo’s formally verified consensus mechanism largely inspired by Bullshark and Narwhal. We plan to undertake several key upgrades that will improve the security, stability and speed of AleoBFT, allowing developers to build faster apps on a highly reliable network.

Creating a familiar, simple developer experience

Developers like to use tools and programs they’re familiar with. By improving aspects of AleoVM, developers will soon have access to a smoother, more familiar development experience and users will be able to interact with Aleo dApps in a more seamless manner. This includes milestones that improve interoperability and create a separation between the fee and the user to create a more frictionless payment experience.

Enhancing Leo with powerful tooling

Several tooling and functionality improvements are being introduced that will make it easier for developers to test their applications more robustly. Leo’s core libraries are also being extended for more flexibility and to support more use cases.

Scaling the prover ecosystem

As the network grows with more users building and interacting on Aleo, our network of provers needs to grow as well. By increasing the number of provers and creating a prover marketplace, we’ll be able to incentivize fast, affordable proving.

But this is just the beginning. These improvements to AleoBFT, AleoVM, Leo, and our Prover network are all designed with one goal in mind: making privacy-preserving technology accessible and practical for mainstream adoption. Together with our community of developers, we’re reshaping what the internet can look like.
